21.02.2011 Cascais/Lissabon: Martin was particularly delighted to be in Lisbon. It's his favourite European city and one he knows very well.

We stayed in the Ritz Four Seasons looking down over the city. Martin of course took on his role as city guide. On the first day we wandered down in the spring sun from the hotel to the Rio Tejo at low tide. We strolled right down the Avenida da Liberdade, or in other words liberation road. And of course we tried out the Elevador de Santa Justa, a lift that was built by the creator of the Eiffel Tower. To visit the city, you also need to take tram no. 28 from one to the other side of Lisbon. In the evening, we had a delicious meal at Casa do Alentejo.

22.02.2011 Lissabon: The next day, we walked through the city again to the Castelo de São Jorge, the city's historical castle. At the end of the day, Martin reserved a table for us in Lisbon's top restaurant, Tavares.

Lisbon was a lovely end to our trip to Africa. Over the centuries, European and African cultures have influenced each other here to greater and lesser peaceful extents.
